Dermatologic Surgery

JC: January 2023

This study examined healing time and pain outcomes in auricular wounds managed by second intention healing after Mohs surgery. Results showed that second intention healing of the ear produces acceptable cosmetic outcomes with manageable pain, though healing times were longer than primary closure.

Take-Home Messages

  • Second intention healing is a viable and often preferred option for auricular defects after Mohs surgery, particularly on the conchal bowl and antihelix.
