Dermatologic Surgery
JC: December 2022
This study demonstrated that bupivacaine local anesthesia, compared to lidocaine alone, significantly reduces post-operative narcotic analgesic use in dermatologic surgery patients. The longer duration of action of bupivacaine provides extended post-operative pain control, resulting in decreased opioid consumption and improved patient comfort during the immediate post-operative period.
Take-Home Messages
- •Bupivacaine provides significantly longer post-operative analgesia compared to lidocaine in dermatologic surgery.
- •Use of bupivacaine reduces post-operative narcotic analgesic use, supporting opioid-sparing pain management strategies.
- •Combining bupivacaine with lidocaine offers both rapid onset and prolonged duration of anesthesia.
