This study evaluated the incidence and risk factors for temporal (facial) nerve branch injury during Mohs surgery. The authors identified high-risk anatomic zones and provided strategies for minimizing iatrogenic nerve damage during tumor extirpation and reconstruction.
Take-Home Messages
- •The temporal branch of the facial nerve is most vulnerable in the temple and lateral forehead regions during Mohs surgery.
- •Knowledge of the temporal nerve course relative to surgical landmarks is essential for preventing motor nerve injury during Mohs procedures.
