Open AccessJC: September 2023

This study compared survival outcomes for Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) treated with Mohs micrographic surgery versus wide local excision. No significant difference in overall or disease-specific survival was found between the two surgical approaches, though Mohs offered tissue-sparing benefits.

Take-Home Messages

  • Both Mohs surgery and wide local excision provide comparable survival outcomes for Merkel cell carcinoma.
  • Mohs surgery may be preferred for MCC in anatomically sensitive locations where tissue conservation is important.
