Dermatologic Surgery (2023)
This study analyzed survival outcomes and prognostic factors for dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) in a large cohort. The findings confirmed that DFSP has an excellent prognosis with appropriate surgical management, and identified tumor thickness and fibrosarcomatous transformation as key adverse prognostic factors.
Take-Home Messages
- •DFSP has an excellent overall prognosis when treated with margin-controlled surgery such as Mohs, but fibrosarcomatous variants carry higher risk.
- •Tumor thickness and histologic subtype should guide the intensity of follow-up surveillance after DFSP treatment.
