This 22-year retrospective study evaluated superficial X-ray radiation therapy (SRT) for the treatment of non-aggressive BCC and SCC in elderly patients. The long-term data demonstrated high cure rates and low recurrence, supporting SRT as a viable non-surgical alternative for older patients unable or unwilling to undergo surgery.

Take-Home Messages

  • Superficial X-ray radiation therapy achieves high cure rates for non-aggressive NMSC in elderly patients over long-term follow-up.
  • SRT is a well-tolerated non-surgical option for elderly patients with BCC or SCC who are poor surgical candidates.
